I was honored to have been asked to host a Carnival themed party for a wonderful nine year old girl recently. It was such a joy to plan a party for someone who really deserved a special day. Katie is a very sweet, kind child with a very cool outlook on life. She's not into pink or typical "girly" things but is very individual.
So we came up with something unique for her party using her favorite colors of red and blue, and planned a party that reflected her personality perfectly.
It started with the invitations, handmade to look like Carnival tickets. Promises of games, cotton candy and lots of fun, made it easy for people to say yes. I then used this color scheme and striped background on signage for the party, banners and for the eventual thank-you cards.
We spent a few days working with Katie's mum on ideas for the buffet and desert table. We decided to hire a popcorn machine, concentrate on finger foods that kids could eat whilst mingling and introduced jars of color co-ordinated candy to make the dessert table really special.
Next stop was to shop for prizes that nine year old girls would love and items that parents would appreciate too. It's very important to me that favors and prizes are well made, thoughtful items that the girls would actually want, rather than a lot of plastic toys that quickly break or get tossed away.
On the day of the party everything turned out perfectly. The guests arrived to the smell of popcorn and a room transformed into a Carnival, with balloons, games, a prize booth, lemonade stand and the huge buffet table filled with themed food. They got to decorate their own personalized goody bags with Carnival stickers, whilst the rest of the guests arrived. Each game area was soon filled with girls waiting to win tickets, that could be spent later at the prize booth and at the tattoo parlor and face painting areas.
It was so much fun to turn their basement into something really unique with all my props and games. Katie's face was a picture when she first saw it transformed and there were many tired but happy faces at the end of the party.
Wonderful Parties, design ideas and lots of pictures xoxo
